Ever since the completion of human genome sequence
was announced, not much progress has been made in the development of diagnosis methods
and new drugs. This leads us to the conclusion that the statistical
method the current researchers are using is not appropriate
for analyzing biological data to contemporary demand.
The traditional methods such as
hypothesis tests were devised for getting the most out from a small number of
data points (which is a computation of probability of
probabilistic data). Though there are still uncertainties, we have genome data which is enormous
enough to infer essential characteristics and fundamental laws. This situation is similar to
when Kepler discovered his famous three laws from the data, which Tycho-Brahe, his mentor,
observed for many years.
Our aim
- Invent novel analysis
algorithms by discovering fundamental laws in biology/genetics.
- Develop diagnosis and
treatment methods of diseases and improve health care standard.
As the first step, we develop novel
concepts, based on rigorous mathematics, of biological phenomenon and will
provide new tools for data analysis.
